Green rolling hills, rows of cypress trees, vineyards as far as the eye can see and fortified medieval towns, these are just a few of the things we will see on this photography workshop! Tuscany is renowned for its sublime landscape, olive groves and of course its wines and cheeses! Spending 4 days in Tuscany and 1 day in Rome on this workshop will give you a taste of some of one of the most famous European landscapes and help create some amazing images.
Our base for the whole trip will be a hotel in the tiny rural village of Montalcino, in the heart of the Val D’Orcia. Being based here means that we will never too far from our sunrise and sunset locations. Montalcino is located amongst rolling hills and cypress trees. And, of course, being in Tuscany, their local wines and cuisine aren’t too bad either!
Every day we will head out early to capture sunrise in a stunning location, if we are lucky, we will also have some classic Tuscan fog which will add a moody and atmospheric feel to our images. During the day, we will have post processing master class sessions, image assessment sessions, and we will also explore some of the most incredible medieval towns nearby.
Highlights of the tour include:
Photograph the classic Tuscan Cypress trees
Photograph some of the most famous farmhouses in Tuscany
Photograph some of the highlights of the Eternal City - Rome
Improve your composition with in the field support and feedback
Shoot some street photography in the cobbled streets of some medieval towns like San Quirico D’Orcia and Siena
Sessions on Post processing and image assessment
We will meet at the arrivals lounge of Rome Fiumicino airport, pack all luggage into our van and head for Val D’Orcia. We will stop for dinner on the way and then check in to our hotel. Before settling into our rooms, we will have a quick briefing and gear check before setting up a plan for the following morning’s sunrise shoot.
We get up early and head out to shoot one of the most famous Tuscan locations. If we get lucky, we will have some thick fog engulfing the landscape. After getting the best of the light, we will return to our hotel to have breakfast and relax a bit before having our first post processing session. We will review the photos captured from first sunrise session, and will go through examples of post processing.
In the afternoon, we will have lunch in Montalcino and head out on foot to explore the old medieval town before heading to our sunset location. After sunset, we will have dinner before heading back to our accommodation for some well-deserved rest.
Days 3 and 4
On both these days we will be shooting sunrise from some of the most iconic locations in Val D’orcia. We will again hope to find morning fog and a colorful sunrise. After sunrise we will return to our hotel for breakfast, after relaxing for a little, we will head out to explore some of the small medieval towns nearby such as Pienza or Siena, with the opportunity to shoot some street photography on one of the days. We will then head to our sunset locations nice and early to ensure we can scout the location to find the best possible composition.
After shooting sunrise and having breakfast, we will pack our bags and head to Rome. We will spend our last night in the eternal city, shooting sunset and blue hour near the Vatican before having dinner and getting back to our guesthouse for our final night.
Yes, this is our last day. We will start the day by shooting sunrise at the Colloseum. We will then explore a bit of Rome before heading back to our hotel to have breakfast and check out.
